Lets be honest, the majority of us know Turtle Bay for its rum and at 2-4-1 it’s often the place to pre-drink but the food has never really been on my ‘must do’ list. However when given the opportunity to try the brunch, something I should really do more often, I just had to see what it was offering.

There are plentyyy of options on the menu

I actually struggled with what to pick. After much umm’ing and ahh’ing, I ordered the ‘jerk sausage & eggs’ Roti Roll. It was a pleasant surprise to see they had beef sausages, as someone who doesn’t eat pork, I’m often limited on breakfast options. I also ordered a portion of the ‘Johnny Cakes’ which let me say, might just be the best fried dumplings I have ever tasted and being the greedy cow I am, had Hope’s plantain from her dish as she doesn’t eat it.. WEIRD FLEX BUT OK. The plantain surprised me as it was in breadcrumbs (I think) and literally deep-fried but omg they had the sweetest softest centre. Hope had the Big Veg Grill down, which I forgot to picture but she literally didn’t even stop to speak while eating and her plate was empty at the end so I think that sums up her experience lol. I couldn’t even finish my Roti and for ya girl that is saying something! The portion sizes and prices are amazingly good value for money.

To drink

The Breakfast Martini caught my eye first and even though I was a little skeptical at the idea of marmalade in a drink, yo I ended up having 3 before 11:30am lol so enough said right? Hope ordered a bloody mary, which I literally told her not to as I knew she wouldn’t like it, acquired taste and all that, but luckily also went for a Ginger Beer which was “fresh and perfect” in her words. Coming in its own cute glass bottle was a nice touch as well.

The food was literally faultless I have to admit, everything I tasted was full of flavour and cooked well, even the accompanying dips were perfect. I’m already thinking of an excuse to do Turtle Bay brunch again soon!!

PS: if you are reading this from somewhere other than Bristol, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but brunch is only being piloted here for now!
